The Memphis women's soccer team scored four unanswered goals in the second half to top the Louisville Cardinals 6-2 at Echles field in Memphis Friday.
The Lady Tigers scored on a penalty kick by freshman midfielder Anja Nielson in the second minute of the game after senior wing Tori Winslett was taken down in the box. Fifty-one seconds later, freshman striker Jessica Gjertsen tallied the first of her two goals off of a pass from senior striker Candice Spiniolas.
Louisville battled back to even things up when sophomore Meg Shively notched her first two career goals on free kicks just before half.
In the second half, Candice Spiniolas scored three consecutive goals, two of which were assisted by sophomore midfielder Ali Baker. In the waning minutes of the match, Gjertsen added her second goal of the match and 14th of the the season off of a feed from freshman forward Veronica Ruiz.
The Lady Tigers (8-7, 3-5) pulled their record back above .500 with the victory over the Cardinals (1-13-1, 0-8). U of L will face UAB in Birmingham Sunday at 4:00.
